Allure's Best New Dinners Are on Sahara Avenue. The Crossing Is the Hard Part

October 8, 2026

"Sahara and Las Vegas Boulevard is pretty much the dead center of our town," Derek Stonebarger told Nevada Public Radio in June. He owns Rebar in the Arts District and is now putting what he called "more than his life savings" into a steakhouse and gallery at the Commercial Center.

From 200 W. Sahara Ave., that line reads as a plain description of 2026. This year's most decorated new Strip restaurant opened on Sahara Avenue. One of the city's best-known Thai kitchens returned to its original home on the same street. A smaller set of projects is lining up behind them. Meanwhile, the one structure meant to make walking to all of it easier has had its construction deadline extended to 2030.

The award-winner sits at the intersection

Kwame Onwuachi opened Maroon at SAHARA Las Vegas in late April. It is his first steakhouse and his first Las Vegas restaurant. It took over the room SAHARA identifies as the former Bazaar Meat by José Andrés space. The concept is a steakhouse seen through an Afro-Caribbean lens. A custom-built jerk pit stands in the middle of the dining room and turns out rack of lamb, jerk chicken and a pork tomahawk. Steaks come from Rosewood Ranch in Texas and include a 22-ounce porterhouse and an eight-ounce wagyu tenderloin. The dish Eater led with is an oxtail Wellington with jerk beef bacon and black truffle. Luis "Lu" Lopez built the cocktail list, which includes the Kingston Colada, made with Wray & Nephew rum, sherry and pineapple.

The recognition came quickly. Las Vegas Weekly reviewed Maroon on June 25 and named it "Best New Strip Bite" in its 2026 Best of Vegas issue on Aug. 27. In September, FOX5 reported that Onwuachi had received a ceremonial Key to the Las Vegas Strip.

SAHARA posts Maroon's hours as 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The 11 p.m. weekend close makes it a realistic late reservation for anyone heading home to a tower a short distance away.

The same building covers breakfast and 3 a.m.

That same resort now handles the other end of the clock. FOX5 reported in September that Randy's Donuts had opened inside Prendi at SAHARA. Its hours are listed as 6 to 10 a.m. and again from 2 p.m. to 4 a.m., every day.

So the property at Sahara and Las Vegas Boulevard now has a destination dinner that closes at 10 or 11 and a donut counter that stays open until 4 in the morning. That pairing makes SAHARA a more useful neighbor than it was a year ago.

Lotus of Siam returned east on Sahara

Roughly a mile east on the same avenue, Lotus of Siam reopened in May in the East Sahara space where it first opened in November 1999. The Review-Journal noted that the space is now much expanded. The address is 953 E. Sahara Ave., Suite A5, in the Commercial Center. This location had closed for the last time in June 2021 because of staffing problems, after earlier closures for storm damage in 2017 and the pandemic in 2020. A grand-reopening ceremony followed on June 4.

The return brought more than the old dining room back. Chef Saipin Chutima's kitchen opened with signatures like crisp garlic prawns and khao soi with crisp duck. A new bar, Naam Jai, serves cocktails built on Thai ingredients, and its name comes from a Thai concept of generosity and hospitality. The restaurant's well-known wine program is back too, with a 6,000-bottle cellar strong in German rieslings.

Call before you go. The Sahara location's OpenTable listing shows Wednesday through Sunday, 5 to 9:45 p.m. The restaurant's own contact page lists Sahara as open daily from 5 to 10 p.m. Further down, the same page says only the Flamingo location is open. Until those sources agree, a phone call is the reliable way to confirm a table.

The Commercial Center is the part still being written

Lotus came back to a plaza that people with a stake in it are trying to revive. KNPR's June report described a largely empty parking lot alongside a wave of recent and planned openings. It quoted John Fish, whose family's John Fish Jewelers has been in the Commercial Center for 50 years: "It feels like we're going through a big change period for the better." Manager Penny Chutima said she hopes the Lotus homecoming will bring more traffic and culture back to the plaza.

Two projects show where things stand, based on the most recent reports available.

  1. Arty's Steakhouse, Ste. A12. This is Stonebarger's restaurant and gallery. A June WhatNow report said it was expected to open "this fall" with more than 1,000 works of art.
  2. Krush Groove Cafe, B-27. A July WhatNow report gave a tentative October or November opening, "barring permits." The operator had not yet said what it will serve.

If both open on schedule, Lotus will have two new neighbors in the same plaza by the end of the year. That is a large "if" for two projects that both depend on permits and timing, and the plaza deserves a recheck as the holidays approach.

Every route crosses the same intersection

The crossing at Sahara Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard complicates access to Sahara's new dining. Routes from Allure to SAHARA, the Commercial Center, and Fontainebleau all run through that junction. The City of Las Vegas counts roughly 70,000 cars there a day.

The city planned to build a $40 million circular pedestrian bridge there in 2024, connecting all four corners. As of February, crews had not broken ground. At a Feb. 2 meeting, the City Council extended the deadline to build it to 2030. A city spokesperson said the project can move forward only "if and when funding is available," and cited rising construction costs. One pedestrian told 8 News Now the crossing means "eight or nine lanes to walk across."

The practical alternative already runs underground. The Vegas Loop serves SAHARA, Fontainebleau and Resorts World among its 14 stations. Boring Company-reported stations at Virgin Hotels and near Paradise and Tropicana are still described as upcoming, with timing subject to change. That covers the north-Strip trio. Lotus and the Commercial Center are still across the intersection.

Fontainebleau's fall calendar, one Loop stop away

Gabriela Cámara's Cantina Contramar opened at Fontainebleau on March 28. Resy put it at No. 2 on its July 2026 Las Vegas Hit List and singled out the tuna tostadas and pescado a la talla. The resort lists dinner hours of 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The rest of Fontainebleau's season goes well with a dinner there.

  • BleauLive this month: Keith Urban on Oct. 16 and 17, Logic & G-Eazy on Oct. 18, and Ricky Martin on Oct. 30 and 31.
  • MIND2MIND at Azul: the mentalism engagement runs Oct. 9, 2026, through Feb. 2, 2027.
  • Oasis Ice Rink: returns Nov. 19 and runs through Jan. 17, 2027.
  • NFR programming, Dec. 3 through 12: concerts from Dierks Bentley and CREED, rodeo watch parties, and a Fontainebleau Rodeo Club at The Tavern.

One nearby table has left the rotation. Resorts World's Mulberry Street Pizzeria served its last meal on Monday, Sept. 14, after five years in Las Vegas.

That leaves the north end of the Strip with a clear shape this fall. Maroon and Randy's are at the intersection, Lotus of Siam is roughly a mile east with two neighbors possibly on the way, and Cantina Contramar is one Loop stop south. The City Council has given the bridge meant to tie the four corners together until 2030 to be built.

Living a few minutes from Maroon, Lotus of Siam and the Commercial Center's next chapter is part of what an Allure residence is worth, and a pricing conversation should include it.
